Noor is from San Diego, California but currently lives and studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She initially found out about Istanbul&I through her cousin who lived in Istanbul, and knew she was looking to work in a social inclusion oriented organization. After completing the process of applying and interviewing, she was promptly selected as the Summer intern at Istanbul&I in May, 2022. Though her stay has been short in Istanbul&I, she had a packed internship as she helped the Executive Board with their day to day task. She also organized and co-managed the annual summer flea market. She also put in extra effort by organizing a GoFundMe for the NGO and contributed to the future activities of I&I.
When responding to the question “Why do you volunteer at Istanbul and I” she said:
To be honest, the people at Istanbul&I are the reason I volunteer. Seeing how passionate the community is in creating change and observing the lengths they are willing to go to achieve that change is super inspiring. In my time with I&I, I have worked closely with the board members and the time and effort they dedicate to the community prove how impactful and how much of a special space it truly is. Being a part of a community which comes together in sight of creating an inclusive space and doing social good is uplifting and motivates me to contribute the most I can.
"Noor is one of the best additions to our team this summer! Her search for knowledge and proactiveness impressed me. She has tried every single activity and event possible at the organization and yet her favorite is our Board Meetings! She did her best by contributing with her insightful comments and I'm sure that we will work on great things together in the future! Wish her the best as she leaves for Canada!" - Manohur Chand Poonyth, Executive Coordinator
