Taha Jebbar - Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteer Spotlight

Taha is from Rabat, Morocco. He is a 22-year-old master’s student at Altınbaş University, majoring in industrial engineering. Taha is engaged with social entrepreneurship and believes this is how we can have a global impact. He is also interested in psychology. In his free time, Taha enjoys reading, watching movies and series, listening to music, and last but not least, volunteering.

Taha started volunteering at Istanbul&I in September 2021. After being introduced to Istanbul&I by a friend back in 2020, he started following their Instagram page and joined the English Speaking Club during quarantine. He later applied to be a volunteer twice; but after the third time, his dedication paid off and he got accepted as the workshop officer and organized the self-defense workshop. He is currently a training officer at HR.

“Why do you volunteer at Istanbul&I?”

After graduating from high school back in my hometown, I started volunteering at Enactus—an international NGO—for four years! We received training regarding social entrepreneurship and learned how to implement what we had learned through interviewing different startups in our community. I could say, those four years were the best years of my life. When I moved to Istanbul, I was looking for another great NGO and stumbled across Istanbul&I. I volunteer mainly because of two reasons. Firstly, I find it really motivating when I have a positive impact on someone’s life and the community I live in. Secondly, it allows me to make friends and expands my network. Meeting new people always leads to more opportunities. Sometimes, when you have an idea and want to make it a reality, it seems impossible to do so; but when you see someone who has done it before, you can learn from their experiences and exchange ideas. It is a huge source of motivation for me. I am capable of doing many things if I know many people. I don't want to live a normal life. I want to make an impact, so I can feel alive.

“Taha joined the community in 2021 and was quick to integrate with our volunteers with his positive energy and willingness to work in the community service projects. He showed immense commitment and was always available for our Animal Rights Project, Human Welfare Project, and also the Iftar&Community Project!” Manohur Chand Poonyth, Executive Coordinator
